My Story

I am a licensed massage therapist for humans and animals, and I own Aquadog Spa in Kent, WA where I do animal massage and canine hydrotherapy. My husband and I have also done Dalmatian rescue and have quite a crew of Dalmatians living with us, along with our 2 cats.

In my business, I see a lot of older dogs with arthritis, hip dysplasia, and other age related disorders as well as dogs that have had orthopedic surgeries, such as knee (stifle) and hip surgeries. My goal in working with these dogs is always to help make them as comfortable as possible, and to provide their owners with resources and information they can use at home.

In caring for our own animals, I have found holistic care and complimentary therapies to provide a great benefit to our animals, especially in dealing with the issues of aging animals. It is this philosophy that led me to develop the first K9 Flax Wrap.

The Body Wrap was the first style of wrap I made, inspired by our senior dog, Dolly.  Dolly was a rescued Dalmatian who had severe arthritis and the cold of winter was difficult for her.  She started having trouble settling down in the evening when she wanted to sleep and couldn't get comfortable.  I knew of the flax seed packs for people and thought that one might help her.  But I quickly realized they contained too many herbs for a dog's heightened sense of smell, and the shape didn't work for a dog. So I designed a wrap that would fit like a coat, and used flax seed and herbs that were safe and effective for dogs. The placement of the flax seed and herbs was determined by the dog's anatomy and the main areas of discomfort that I have seen in so many older dogs. The Body Wrap provides warmth to the muscles and joints of the back, neck and shoulders. After many attempts at creating the wrap, I finally found a style that worked.

Dolly was a very special dog to me, and I have missed her every day since her passing on January 15, 2007. She never let her failing body get her down and was always determined to do whatever she wanted to do. We spent many hours in the pool together where the buoyancy of the water lifted her spirit as well has her body. I sincerely hope that Dolly will be remembered as the inspiration for a product that will provide comfort and relief to many other dogs.
